Coloured Books

Here at Tales Toolkit we love a splash of colour. At Childhaven Nursery in Scarborough, they have created these really useful colour-coded flip books to accentuate each aspect of story structure.

“Once we’d introduced the large bags and images, we realised that all our story telling needed to follow this format. The coloured books supported staff to tell a story orally and then in the fullness of time they supported children themselves to tell their stories, using the book as a visual prompt. We used them at gathering times and also put them put in provision too. They were great for enabling the children to follow an oral story and maintain attention and also great for inspiring child-initiated story telling as children played.
